Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and EZ-WEB, Lda. for the Verissimum app and website. Using Verissimum means you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use Verissimum.

Who may use Verissimum

You must be 18 or older, and you must be able to enter a contract where you live. An account is for one person. Verissimum tells a story in English, European Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, French and German, and you choose the language in the app. These terms and the privacy policy are written in English only.

Your account

You can sign in with Google, with Apple, with a single-use link sent to your email address, or with an email address and a password. Whichever you choose, keep it to yourself.

You are responsible for what happens on your account, including every viewer on it and the parental PIN you set. Tell us at support@verissimum.com if you think somebody else has got in.

What it costs

Verissimum has two plans. Free costs nothing. Verissimum Plus costs €4.99 a month or €39.99 a year. There is no advertising on either plan.

A Free account can start 1 story a day, across every viewer on the account, and can hold 1 viewer. Plus removes the daily limit, allows 5 viewers, and allows downloads. A download carries a short Verissimum film at the end.

Plus starts with a 7-day free trial. We charge nothing during the trial. If you do not cancel before it ends, the subscription starts and renews each month or each year until you cancel. You can cancel at any time. The next section says where you cancel, what happens to the period you already paid for, and how you get your money back if you change your mind.

We never see your card details. The price we show before you subscribe is the price we charge.

Separately from watching, an account can generate its own stories. A free account can generate 30 stories in each 30-day period. The app shows what is left before you commit to a story. We can change the limit, and we will tell you before we do.

If we change a price, we tell you before it applies to you, and you can cancel before it does. Nothing in these terms lets us charge you by surprise.

Cancelling, and your 14-day right to change your mind

Plus starts with a 7-day free trial, and we charge nothing during it. Cancel before the trial ends and you have paid nothing, so there is nothing to refund. That is the whole answer for almost everybody. The rest of this section only matters once a payment has been taken.

You buy Plus at a distance, without meeting us. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you have 14 days from the day you subscribe to change your mind and withdraw, and you do not have to give a reason. Write to support@verissimum.com inside those 14 days; one plain sentence saying you withdraw is enough. The free trial covers the first 7 of those days, so your first charge lands while you can still withdraw.

Plus works the moment you subscribe, which is inside those 14 days. European law lets a seller ask you for two things at that point: an express request to start the service straight away, and an acknowledgement that you lose the withdrawal right once the service has been delivered in full. Verissimum asks you for neither. There is no box to tick in our checkout, and no such wording on your order. So watching a film in the first 14 days does not take your withdrawal right away, and we do not keep a share of the price for the days you watched. If you withdraw inside the 14 days and you were charged, you get that payment back in full.

Cancelling is a different thing from withdrawing, and you can do it at any time, for any reason, trial or no trial. Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not cut short the period you have already paid for: Plus stays on until that period ends, and the account goes back to Free after it.

If a payment fails, we do not switch Plus off at the first failed attempt. The seller retries your card for days, on its own schedule, and Plus stays on while it does. The account goes back to Free once the seller has given up and told us the subscription is over.

Cancel where you bought it, because that is the only place that can stop the charge:

  • On the website: open the plans page in your account and choose Manage billing, which opens the seller’s own page.
  • In the iPhone or iPad app: open Settings on the device, tap your name, then Subscriptions.
  • In the Android app: open the Google Play Store app, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions.

Whoever took your money is the only one who can give it back, and in both app stores that is not us. A subscription bought inside the iPhone or iPad app is sold to you by Apple, and only Apple can refund it: ask at reportaproblem.apple.com. A subscription bought inside the Android app is sold to you by Google, and only Google can refund it: ask from your order history at play.google.com. That payment never reaches us, so we cannot return it, and writing to us cannot move it. Write to us anyway if a store turns you down: we will tell the store what we can see about your account, and we will close the subscription on our side.

On the website, Paddle is the seller of record. Paddle takes the payment, handles the VAT for the country you are in, and is the name that appears on your card statement, not Verissimum. For a subscription bought on the website, a withdrawal or a refund still goes through us: write to support@verissimum.com and we ask Paddle to return the money.

The stories

Verissimum writes, narrates and animates every story with automated systems. Each one is judged and checked against the boundaries of its maturity band before it is published. Automated work is not perfect.

A Verissimum story is entertainment. Do not treat it as advice, factual, medical, legal, financial or otherwise. An explainer is fact checked automatically, and an automatic check is not a guarantee that every detail is right.

Report a story that is wrong for the band it appears in, or wrong in any other way, at support@verissimum.com. We take down what does not belong.

What you may do with a story

You may watch a story, and download it in the app, for your own personal and household use. That permission lasts while your account does.

You may not redistribute a story, publish it, sell it, put it in another product, or use it to train a model. You may not strip a story out of the app.

We can change a story or remove it. A story is not a file you own a copy of.

What is yours

The viewers you create and the notes you type stay yours. You give us permission to use them to make the story you asked for and to run the service for you. That permission ends when you delete the viewer or the account.

The Verissimum name, the app and the software behind it are ours.

Acceptable use

Do not use Verissimum to:

  • produce content that is illegal where you are;
  • produce content that sexualises a minor, in any form;
  • harass, threaten or defame a person;
  • infringe somebody else’s rights.

Do not try to:

  • get past a maturity band boundary, a parental PIN or the separation between accounts;
  • reach another person’s account or data;
  • scrape the service, overload it, or take it apart to work around a limit.

Notifications

Notifications are optional. You turn them on in the app, and you turn them off again in the app or in your device settings. We only use them to tell you a story is ready.

Availability

We can change Verissimum, pause it, or stop it. We do not promise it will always be up, but we keep it running as well as we reasonably can.

If we decide to shut the service down, we will tell you first and leave you time to delete your account.

Ending it

Delete your account whenever you like, from the account settings in the app or on the website. The deletion is immediate, and the privacy policy says exactly what goes with it.

We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Where it is fair to do so, we tell you why before we do it.

No warranty

Verissimum is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we make no promise that it will suit a particular purpose, that it will be uninterrupted, or that any story will be accurate.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect loss, for loss of profit, or for data you lost that you could have kept a copy of. Where the law allows a cap on our total liability to you, that cap is the larger of 100 EUR and what you paid us for Verissimum Plus in the 12 months before the claim.

Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, and liability for fraud.

If you use Verissimum as a consumer, you keep every right your own country’s law gives you. Nothing in these terms takes one away.

The app stores

You get Verissimum from the App Store or from Google Play, and their own terms cover the download. Apple and Google are not parties to this agreement. They do not run Verissimum, they do not support it, and any claim about Verissimum is a claim against us.

Changes to these terms

We can change these terms. The date at the top says when we last did. We tell you inside the app before a change that matters to you takes effect, and using Verissimum after that means you accept it.

Governing law and where a claim goes

The law of Portugal governs these terms. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you keep the right to bring a claim in the courts of the country you live in.
